Q: What is your role at JS Solutions (JSS), and what does a typical day look like for you?
A: I work for JS Solutions as a Communications and Contract Specialist, where I work on streamlining processes and aid in marketing efforts. A big part of my job is working on our internal and external communications. It’s important that JSS always puts our best foot forward, so I ensure that our team has the tools they need to do that. When I see something that needs to be done or produced, I make those things happen so my team can do their jobs.
On the government side, I support the Department of Defense (DoD) as an analyst for the Army Futures Command Future Vertical Lift Cross-Functional Team (AFC-FVL-CFT). I also work with speakers when we have events. Whether it be one speaker or a panel, I ensure that they have everything they need to be successful. That often requires creating queue sheets and preparing slide decks and any other assets they need for the event. I also ensure that our data management systems are efficient and promote business continuity. Everyone has a different communication preference and a different data storage preference, so I spend a lot of time building relationships with my team to help them create the data storage system that works best for them and is compatible with our shared system.
Q: Where were you working prior to joining JSS, and what relevant experience do you bring to your current role?
A: My husband was in the Army for 21 years, so we moved around a lot for his postings. With all the moving, I’ve gotten to work in different roles but, prior to joining JS Solutions, I was working as a procurement manager for government prime maintenance contracts. My focus was supporting the aircraft–whether they had to do a hard landing and needed new blades, or anything else, I made sure the aircraft was up to par.
My formal training is in business and marketing, but I also have a coding background. I hold certifications in federal contracting basics, project management and essential scaled agile. Before I started in government contracting, I worked in several roles that directly involved communication. I served as the communications director for the Sierra Vista Chamber of Commerce and as a special events coordinator for Country Music Television.
Each of those experiences shaped who I am and how I approach my work today. The overarching theme throughout my career has been to take deep breaths and accept that what will be, shall be. My dad taught me to think with my head and not my heart, which has historically given me clarity on the path forward. There is no need to waste time stressing and worrying over something when you can use that time to create a strategic plan to overcome the obstacle you are facing.
Q: What aspect of your job and in working with customers, do you consider yourself an expert?
A: Throughout my career, I would say I have gained expertise in knowledge management and organizational improvement. I’ve learned how to build relationships with those around me, which enables me to understand how they communicate and how they process data. The more I know about people, the easier it is for me to offer them a solution that fits their needs. Working in several technical environments while supporting several diverse teams has given me the ability to adapt quickly and create solutions that are right for my customer. I try to think ahead to anticipate the problem before my customer even realizes it’s an issue, so I have a solution when they need it.
Q: Why do you think companies should work with JSS, and how does JSS bring value to its customers?
A: At JSS, we focus on quality over quantity. We look at our processes to determine where we can improve to make things more efficient for our customers. JSS is a lean but strong team, and we always work to deliver the quality product our customers deserve.

Q: What makes JSS different from other companies where you’ve been employed?
A: JSS is small, so it feels like you are part of a family. People often spend more waking hours at work than they do at home, so knowing that I have a voice with my team, and they have my back come hell or high water is a reassuring feeling. With other companies, I’ve known that I was just a button, a seat, or a number, and I didn’t feel valued. At JS Solutions, I know I am part of something, and not just another employee. JSS makes me want to strive to be a better version of myself. I work harder to accomplish more and push beyond what I thought my limits were. Jason is probably the best boss I’ve ever had. I push myself because I don’t want to let him or my team down. The sense of meaningful, positive purpose I have from working at JS Solutions makes it a special place to be. Since the company is young and small, it’s been awesome to be part of laying the solid foundation for our growth. I’ve never been a part of anything like it before. JSS has a lot of potential. I am excited to see where it goes and how I can help it get there.
